Assignment 9: Collage Of Drama Iconography
Setting
In drama there is usually family conflict and constant arguing which is mainly based in the household. Within drama there is always a relationship or a type of romance. Outside in nature is where most love scenes are taken. Drama could also be based on psychological issues such as being entrapped within your own mind.
Staging
For romance the staging is based in a place of nature which is full of greenery. It’s portrayed as a calm place. For example green grass with leaves surrounding a couple showing their romantic bond. Within family arguments it’s usually based in a living room with children or two parents. For example, a broken plate on the floor or a broken picture of the couple’s marriage.
Plot/Narrative:
In a drama the plot/narrative is usually about family problems or above something to do with someone’s personal life.eg: death of loved one, being in love, being bullied etc.
The content and themes within a drama are similar to the narrative. The usual drama themes deal with: bullying, family, love etc
Key Scenes:
Struggle:
Usually the characters would go through a tough time in their life and come out a changed person.
Romance:
There is good , bad and both romance. The good romance is they couple would go not recognising they love each other then get married. Bad is that they are married and get divorced. Both is when they get married then divorced.
Gangs:
There is always a gang around especially in a street drama movie where the person is being chased to be killed or they are about to join the gang and be killed.
Run away:
They are usually from ages 8 up to tees that they run away because they feel they are not being treated right and can’t take it anymore so they run away to seek a better place.
Death:
In some dramas there is a high chance of death and a cause to suicide murder or natural cause death.
Crying:
There will always be a scene where the character will start crying over something emotional.
Psychological:
When the character is mentally disturbed and that affect’s their future during the movie.
Abuse:
Most of the time there will be a scene where the woman or a child is abused but are innocent.
Heartbreak:
One of the bad romances is when a teenager falls in love and has their heart broken which leads to a big incident happening.
Success:
Underneath all that bad there is always something good that happens right at the end where everyone is happy, but sometimes that doesn't happen
Character Type:
The character types for a drama usually depend on the subgenre of the drama. For instance, in dramas there is usually a scapegoat (a group that is singled out). In a romance drama the character types are usually two young lovers, a third person involved who is preventing the love from happening because they are jealous or do not approve.
In a drama crime the type of characters are usually bad guys with guns or psychopath killers. However the characters in a drama can be both young and old, and there is no specific gender in the drama genre.
Character MES:
In drama films there are 2 types of costumes: formal and informal for example formal would be to go to work or to a wedding where the characters would go in a suit or a formal dress where as to go to a walk in the park the characters would wear informal costumes such as tracksuits. Makeup can be both formal and informal.
Props that are used in a drama film are mobile phones (where usually an important phone call or text can change the characters’ lives).
The body language and facial expression changes depending on the plot meaning that it is depending on the characters situation/ mood.

Distinctive Camera Shots/Angles/Movement:
In drama films close ups are usually used on the characters faces to show their emotions towards the main plot (eg: death, loss of job, new relationship etc).
Mid shots are usually used to show the characters costume and body language.
Music
-Music in the movie is often used to help the audience engage with the character in order to understand what the character is feeling.
-Instruments usually used in the dramatic scene is very sad or mysterious but not to much to not give everything away. Instruments: violin, cello, flute, guitar and piano.
-The music is usually in a very slow pace going along to the rhythm of the scene.
